Boy my last post was almost 18 months ago… a lot has happened. I plan to do some catch-up retrospective blog posts so watch this space, but as I was thinking about them the topic of letting go of things I once cared dearly about came up over and over.

Even before this gap I had been slowly letting go of Ruby as we rebuilt much of my beloved monolith in Java Spring services and React.

Then at the end of June 2025, I left my stable job of a decade at Ramsey Solutions to enter ministry at Hope Media Group.

And over nearly this whole period I have slowly, bit by bit, stopped typing my own code, to the extent that I have written almost no code myself in the last year. This… was really hard, and will likely be harder once I post this and future blogs about agentic engineering on social media and lose some long time mutual followers (it’s been real and also I completely understand I just don’t agree).

Also just life happens. My wife Sara Beth and I have celebrated two wedding anniversaries (5 and 6), and my son Asher is now 5 and in kindergarten and sports.

These have all been net positive changes, but they were all very hard in the moment, and each had its own grieving process.

I’ll try to keep things positive but it’s worth working through these before I move on to brighter topics.

Anyway, welcome back!!
